News of our Congregants July 2018

UPBEAT NEWS
Let's keep each other apprised of the happy times and upbeat moments of our lives...

Karen and Roger Cowan enjoyed a trip to New Orleans, to celebrate Karen's birthday. They surprised Roger's sister Jan, who had also traveled to New Orleans from England, but did not know she'd be meeting her brother there!

Candice and Mashuri Clark and their children went to their annual family "camping" trip in Wisconsin, then traveled on to Iceland, where they toured inside glaciers and drove through fjords!

CONDOLENCES
Condolences have been sent to the Gelfand Family on great loss of their most beloved grandmother and great-grandmother, Bea.  She was the matriarch of her family and a wonderful person.  It was our extreme pleasure to have had her in our lives as a dear  friend and nurturer at VBI.

Donna Leff had the following message for the congregation for some time, but it was only recently received to be included in the newsletter:

Thank you to everyone who sent condolence cards on the passing away of my daughter, Linda Lefkovits Hirsch.  She died on December 21, 2017, due to an incurable brain cancer.  She is survived by her husband, Steve, of 31 years, her children, 28 year old Benjamin, 23 year old Kimberly, her brothers, Rick and Bill, and their families, as well as nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, many friends, and me, her mother for 56 years.

Linda grew up at Valley Beth Israel. She went to Hebrew School, Became a Bat Mitzvah, was active in the Youth Group, was confirmed, and was married at the Synagogue.  She made wonderful friends there, who were still close till the end of her days.

Linda attended many services and fund raisers at VBI.  Years  ago, we had "La Cage Aux Folles," and she was in charge of makeup.  One year, her late father, Mel Lefkovits, was one of three Men's Club Presidents, I was Sisterhood President, and Linda was very involved with Youth Group , so we would go together to our meetings.  She would be so pleased to know about all the cards.

My thanks also to Rabbi Mark for the beautiful and inspiring funeral service that he led.

Donna Lefkovits Leff
