Behind the Headlines - March 2017

by Selma Alpert

TOURIST  GROWTH.  Tourism is booming in Israel, the most peaceful spot in the Middle East.  Jan.-Nov. 2016 reports showed 2,651,400 tourists  visited Israel; 287,000 tourists came in Nov. alone, the highest Nov. ever.  Some came from India and China, and 6000 were from Jordan and Egypt.

NETANYAHU’S  VISIT.  In Feb., Israel’s P.M visited the White House. Pres Trump stated, “Israel is our very important ally, and we’re going to protect it 100%.  Congress approved $600 million for Israel’s missile defense program.  Israel received the first 2 of 50 F-36 stealth planes from the U.S., boosting Israel’s military capacity.  Netanyahu says, “Only strength brings peace.”  May Pres. Trump and Netanyahu form close bonds.

BRITISH  JEWS.  Attacks on Jews rose from 960 in 2015 to 1,308 in 2016. The UK found 130 churches and charities are terrorist-front organizations.  (One is run by a terrorist released from Gitmo.)  Muslims have no-go zones and wield political influence in Parliament and local politics.  Like others in Europe, they do not assimilate but rather make their own communities and  follow sharia law.  Their annual anti-Israel Al Quds March was met this year by hundreds of pro-Israel protesters for the first time in the U.K.  Good!

VOTER  FRAUD. An Electoral College study by Dominion College professors J. Richman and D. Ernest found up to 2.8 million non-citizens voted in the 2014 election  A Harvard professor claims his study showed no non-citizens voted in 2014.  President Trump has asked for an investigation to get some real figures, more insight and information.  Sounds reasonable.

TRAVEL  BAN.  Israelis are banned from 16 countries and no one cares.

Jewish organizations and temples are too busy urging the U.S. not to ban people from Muslim majority lands with no gov’t and no vetting process.

Jews are marching, soliciting and protesting although the FBI and CIA has testified that terrorists have infiltrated the refugees.

How many Jewish groups and temples protest the UN resolution that says Israel has 1967 borders, losing the Western Wall, half of Jerusalem, schools and synagogues?  How many rabbis protest this vote that says Jews have NO historical connection to Jerusalem or the Western Wall, but Palestinians do?
